Do you need to have your own product to “make it” in the world of internet marketing and online business? This is one of the age old questions among internet marketers and has been asked and answered many many times since internet marketing’s inception. I have heard so many different opinions on this. There are those that say you absolutely need to have your own product to succeed in internet marketing and there are those that say no way, it’s not necessary at all. So who’s right, who’s wrong?

I really think that everybody is right. What?! Yes, having your own product is wonderful but certainly not necessary. You can take your product, build a site around the product, create an affiliate program and have others sell it for you, etc… and that works. However, if you don’t have your own product, you can certainly become successful as an affiliate marketer, selling other people’s products. I know internet marketers that have become hugely successful by creating and selling their own product, but on the other hand, I also know some extremely successful affiliate marketers and that’s all they do.

I think a better point is what do a successful internet marketer with his/her own product and an successful affiliate marketer have in common? Motivation and Passion! It takes motivation, passion, drive and ambition to succeed at any endeavor you choose and internet marketing is no different. You need to have passion and love for what you are doing to keep you drive and ambition alive!

Whether you are marketing your own product or someone else’s as an affiliate marketer, your success is definitely related to how passionate you are, how focused you are, how much you believe in the product and how effective your marketing techniques are.

The more you use Google Adsense, the more you’ll learn from your mistakes. But why wait till then – why not learn and benefit from the mistakes of others?…

Here are the top 5 mistakes almost all Adsense publishers make and how you can avoid them:

Mistake #1 – Not playing by the rules

The first major no-no some Adsense publishers unfortunately make is NOT following the guidelines set forth by Google… You can read their “Adsense Policies” right here.

The most important thing here is not to create “artificial clicks” through any means possible. NEVER – I repeat – NEVER click your own links, never ask your friends or relatives to click the links and never, by any means, encourage your visitors to click the links.

Failing to comply with Google’s terms could result in your Adsense account being suspended, or worse, being permanently BANNED! So play by the rules, and you’ll have longer lasting Adsense profits.

Mistake #2 – Improper placement of ads

When it comes to the “placement” of your ads, there is no ‘universal position’ that is guaranteed to increase your Adsense earnings. However, there are certain places that generally are more profitable than others…

For instance, placing ads to the ‘left’ side of your page is logical, because text is generally read from left to right.

This seems to work better because people will finish a sentence and return their eyes to the left position, which means there’s a better chance they’ll spot your ads.

You will also find that you’ll generate more clicks by placing ads at the ‘bottom’ of your content, because as your visitors finish reading your article, there’s a brief moment where they’re looking for something more to do – and your Adsense ads can offer them that something!

Mistake #3 – Choosing bad color palettes

If you want the biggest revenue impact for your ads, then I recommend optimizing your “color palettes”.

A lot of webmasters don’t take the time to do this, but they should. Choosing the right palettes can mean the difference between ads your visitors will notice — and click — and ads they’ll skip right over.

Mistake #4 – Not testing what works and making changes as necessary to improve results

As an Adsense publisher, you should be able to answer these two vital questions:

- Where is Adsense earning me the most revenue?

- How can I use this information to earn even more?

By using Adsense “channels”, Google provides you with a precise method of identifying the best ‘ad placement’, ‘color palettes’, and ‘ad formats’ for your sites, so you can make changes as necessary in order to realize your maximum earning potential.

Many publishers have dramatically improved their results and reported increases in revenue by making these simple changes.

Mistake #5 – Not caring for the goose that lays the golden eggs

It doesn’t matter how “cool” your site is, if your visitors AND the search engines don’t like it, you won’t earn any substantial revenue.

Think about it…

First you must get visitors (i.e. please the search engines), then your visitors must WANT to hang around long enough to potentially click your ads!

Private Label Rights Simplified

PLR, or private label rights, is content that (according to wikipedia.com) “can be sold and bought in the form of articles, reports, eBooks, and autoresponders. This kind of content is used for the purpose of allowing multiple buyers to invest in the content with free rein to alter and use it by claiming authorship of it.”

So, what does that mean for website owners and online marketers?…

Simply that you don’t have to spend the time writing your own content from scratch. This is a huge benefit, especially if you own more than one website.

There’s no need to pay a ghostwriter to write articles, newsletter content, etc. for you. With PLR you can have content that brings your readers back to visit again and again, without investing a significant amount of time and/or money.

In addition to it costing less and requiring little work, using private label content is also the fastest option for launching *multiple* products into the marketplace and establishing credibility as an authority in your chosen niche.

The neat thing about PLR is how it can be used over and over in various forms. For instance, let’s say you purchase PLR in the form of articles. Once you receive your articles, you read them over, make changes to them adding your own voice (i.e. make them your own), altering them for your target market, adding key points, etc.

Then you can turn around and use those articles as content in your autoresponder, while also compiling them into a small report which you giveaway to promote your website.

Once your basic outline is in place, those same articles can then be expanded to create a full-blown ebook, or even a high end video product.

Imagination is truly your only limit!

If I had to sum up using private label rights (PLR) in 4 steps, here is what they would be…

Step 1: Find Quality PLR Content/Products

Step 2: Improve/Personalize/Customize

Step 3: Add to Marketing Arsenal

Step 4: Repeat The Process

The challenge for most marketers is getting past step one and developing a “plan” for what they are going to do with the content once they find it.

Most people purchase PLR content with no clue what to do with it, therefore it sits on their hard drive collecting digital dust instead of putting cash in their pocket.

Here are some ways you can put PLR content to good use:

*Publish a “Featured Article” for your ezine or newsletter

*Build trust with your readers in an effort to promote a related product (either your own or as an affiliate)

*Generate ideas for new blog posts or podcasts

*Compile into an email / blog series or informative report
